This standout custom siding project on the San Juan Islands features 9 ½” James Hardie® Artisan Square Channel siding, primed and ready for custom paint, paired with architectural metal corner details for a crisp, modern, high-end finish.
Alpine Exteriors removed the original failing shiplap cedar siding, which had suffered from water damage, warping, and weather exposure — a common issue on coastal and cliffside homes. Given this home’s extreme exposure to wind, salt air, and horizontal rain — perched just off a cliff — it was critical to build a water-managed wall system that would perform under the harshest conditions.
We upgraded the weatherproofing envelope by installing VaproShield® self-adhered WRB, a peel-and-stick air/moisture barrier that far exceeds standard housewraps. In addition, we installed a rainscreen system, creating a ventilated gap between the siding and sheathing to allow drainage and airflow — a highly recommended upgrade for any waterfront or high-moisture zone home.
The result is a high-performance rainscreen siding system built to last and engineered for extreme durability, moisture protection, and structural longevity.
